The Company
When Sirma was founded in 1927, carbon brushes were only a side business. The core business at that time was the repair of electrical motors, which four employees pursued in a small workshop. Today, carbon brushes for all kinds of electrical motors, carbon bearings, carbon seal rings and carbon slide vanes are among SIRMA’s best selling products. Recent years have also brought an increase in the production of carbon brushes for small motors used in household appliances and hand-held power tools.
The first contacts to SCHUNK, then Schunk und Ebe, were likewise made in 1947. Since that time the company has been a representative of Schunk products in Turkey and it even manufactured carbon brushes itself from Schunk carbon plates.
The Company grew slowly but steadily until the year 1982. In 1982, the two owning families together with a few employees went public and founded a corporation. Today SIRMA is one of the leading companies in the Turkish Carbon Industry.
In 1995, SCHUNK GmbH acquired 48% of the shares of SIRMA and has been its biggest shareholder since then. The remaining shares are held by ten further partners. Today SIRMA has 40 employees and mainly manufactures carbon brushes for small motors, industrial and railway technology as well as mechanical carbon products, in a production area of approximately 1000 mm2. 90% of the company’s sales are earned with products that it manufactures itself. The remaining 10% of sales are accounted for by resale of products purchased from other SCHUNK Sister Companies.
The most important customers are Metro Istanbul, Metro Izmir as well as such large scale Industrial customers as cable, pump, petrochemical, cement glass and steel factories.
